Scottish whistle from 1984...

What the hell…it was a while ago

Alas, it’s a bit dark to tell what sort of whistle it is.

But worth a listen.

Alas, it’s a bit dark to tell what sort of whistle it is.

Does it really matter?

But it was 1984. There weren’t many options. The red head is a bit of a give away. Generation.

Nice one  .. Is that you on the Whistle Kenny ?
Cheers form OZ …Charlie.

Nice music. I hope to be able to play at that speed someday.

Hi Charlie - of course, you’ve never met me with hair . Hope all is well with you - may get back to Oz at the end of next year, and will let you know when it happens. It would be great to have a few tunes and beers again.
“Brus” - Yes - it was a “Generation” whistle. At that time, the only whistles widely available were “Generations” and “Clarkes” [ in “C”], although I think I did have a “High-D Overton” at that time. It would have blown the speakers though !
I collected quite a few recordings of both Scottish and Irish flute and whistle players in the 1980s, and thanks to internet technology, can now make them widely available on “Youtube”, so watch this space.
By the way, the playing of the tune is quite Irish influenced, as I first heard it played by John Skelton on the first “Shegui” LP from about 1980. I used to play it quite a lot with Tony Cuffe [RIP], who used to ask [ quite rightly ] me not to go too fast !

All the best, Kenny

Kenny with hair :astonished: … how about that ! … ahhh ,we were all young and beautiful once mate..
Hope to see you if you get to OZ next year…

Around the same time - Dougie Pincock, with the “Battlefield Band”.

Kenny, you have obviously now reached your “reminiscences of an old codger” phase. You have my complete sympathy.

Nice vids!

This is possibly from 1985. Peter Boond, who was a founder band member, and kept the band going until a farewell concert in Edinburgh in 2002, is on the left of the screen. Peter sadly died earlier this year, but we had some great times together, and played a lot of music. RIP, Peter.
The tune is a Highland piper’s version of “The Manchester” hornpipe.

Hi kenny

That tune always brings this song to mind.

Bottle o’ the Best
