It went as far south as the California/Mexico border as well.
On TV last night, someone official was complaining (and I think rightly) that what should have gone out for all areas except for those most likely to be immediately affected (Northern California/Southern Oregon) should have been a “watch” not a “warning.” Typically “watch” means “conditions make this event likely…stay tuned, and be prepared to move” and “warning” means “the event is happening…seek cover NOW.” That’s why my husband panicked and called me…we have enough experience with tornado “watches” and “warnings” from living in the South that he heard “tsunami warning” and interpreted it as “tsunami is coming.”
Lots of thunder at last night’s horse race in So. California. Did anyone catch this on the morning news?
Shaken announcer gives a stirring call
When Thursday’s earthquake struck, track announcer Vic Stauffer was describing the action in the day’s second race. “We are in the midst of an earthquake,” Stauffer suddenly exclaimed before adding, “By the way, folks, I want you to know that I love you all and horse racing was my first love.”
