(OT) Yikes! Nasty 'quake near Paso Robles!

Is anyone here from that part of the Central Coast??? 6.5 is a pretty nasty 'quake! We felt a pretty good jolt up here near Santa Cruz, but no damage as far as I can see.

Just saw that too. We are too far North to feel it here in Sonoma County.

Hope all is well down there.

I have a cousin-in-law in Paso…I hope everything’s OK with her. We did a bit of rocking and rolling up here in the mountains, but nothing major. I think it was worse in the Southland…a friend of mine in Culver City said it was pretty nasty there.

I felt it at work (Sunnyvale).

Felt about like a close-in 4, but it lasted longer than most little quakes do.

The first reports had it near Monterey, and maybe a 6.3; knowing it was all the way down near Paso Robles I’m surprised it wasn’t rated higher than than the current 6.5 figure.

Yeah…they’re saying now it was about 10 miles from Cambria. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were upgraded at some point…we usually don’t feel earthquakes from that far south unless they’re awfully big.

And I just saw there was just an aftershock!

Wow, people, this is really God’s way of saying, “DON’T BUILD HERE.”

Yeah yeah, just like our tornados. Actually, they might be God’s way of saying, “DON’T PUT A TRAILER PARK HERE.”

But seriously, I hope everyone’s OK.

As if California doesn’t have enough problems already.

What problems are you talking about? We got no stinking problems here. At least not any worse than any other government that exists.

Oh, those are problems? Heck, I thought that was SIT NORM stuff.

Go Figger.

I’m in Fresno and felt about ten seconds of relatively gentle rocking. The Christmas tree swayed non-threateningly and the dishes in the cupboard rattled. Reports of real damage are coming in from the coast, however; supposedly there are some buildings down. No word of injuries, praise be.

KGO, ABC News is reporting that 3 are dead in the collapse of an old
building in downtown Paso Robles, two were women who worked at a
dress shop when the roof came down, dumping tons of brick down.
Quake was 6.5 with numerous aftershocks.

Old buildings…seems like so many of them have been retrofitted but I guess there are always exceptions. Brick deathtraps if not skeletally braced and bolted, not to mention the falling debris for pedestrians.
That is really sad news. Felt nothing here.
