A few weeks ago I ordered a High D Standard bore whistle from Ronaldo Reyburn. If you have never heard or played one, you are missing out. This whistle is fabulous. This is a whistle that you can push. If you are a session player and want to be heard, this whistle is for you. The intonation on this whistle is perfect. It plays very cleanly across the octave. It is tunable, and Ronaldo gives you information concerning this.
The sound of this whistle is strong and somewhat breathy, but just enough. I even hear a bit of a really good “Generation” whistle sound with this whistle.
Do you like your bottom D to be strong? As you play up the scale each note is very stable. The C natural is right on. As I mentioned earlier, you can put a lot of breath behind this whistle. It can be pushed and it will stay in tune! I am somewhat of a wet blower as I am sure some of you are. This is a real annoyance, right? I played this whistle for over an hour with NO moisture problems.
I own whistles by Pat O’Riordan, Michael Copeland, Chris Abell, Mike Burke, Overton (Goldie) and I would place Ronaldo’s whistles on this list of fine makers. Ronaldo Reyburn is a true craftsman, and a fine person. Ronaldo also goes a step farther. He gives you a 30 day trial period for his whistles! So, if the whistle does not meet your expectations, you can return it to him. Take a look at Ronaldos website, Reyburn Whistles. I wanted to share this information with all of you. Ronaldo Reyburn makes very fine whistles and deserves to do well.
