Retrofitting keys?

A piper friend of mine was talking about wanting to get keys retrofitted onto his chanter (including stop key); at least an Fnat key. Naturally these would have to be post mounted. Any makers out there who will do this?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Nano, several of the prominent pipe makers will do that for you, but there’s a guy that keys flutes for Skip Healy who is an expert at mounting keys on wooden things. I’ve seen his work and it’s top notch. He might do it for you.

Dave Skillen, at http://www.skiphealy.com/frames/fr_staff.htm

Whoops…forgot, he might need to know how to play the pipes!

Thanks, Lorenzo. I’ll certainly check out Dave as I’ll be wanting to have keys put on an upcoming unkeyed flute!

Marcus Coulter Based in Birmingham UK makes chanters with post mounted keys. Check the pictures on Pat D’Arcy’s website.

Can’t see why your man doesn’t go back to the original maker and ask him about fitting keys.

It’s a bit of a story, Ken, and I want to keep it low key (heh) if I may. Just looking for a selection of reliable contacts to pass on for him to decide on.

Oh, and thanks for your help, too!
