Hi,
I have been recording my whistle playing using my phone which is an Android but was wondering if there is a relatively straightforward way of doing this over a backing track.
I don’t need anything too hi-fi as it’s only for my own amusement and to send to friends and family.
So basically, import a backing track to phone and then record over it.
I’ve been going round in circles on the internet trying to find something that will work.
All help gratefully received
I’m not an Android guy but if you Google “android multitrack recording” there are lots of hits. If you were on iOS I could give you a number of suggestions. Just about anything that claims to do multitrack recording should meet your needs.
How about simply playing the backing track on a CD player, playing your whistle to it and recording both at the same time on the phone? I think that would be easiest.
If you want to go deeper into audio processing and have a PC, I recommend Audacity. It’s free, it’s incredibly powerful and I know very little about it - but it certainly allows to put several tracks together;
When I record tunes for YouTube I have a guitar backing track recorded on an MP3 player then play it back with a small X-Mini speaker and play the whistle along with that and record the whole thing on my PC. It’s a very basic method but it works for me. I find the X-Mini to have a really “Bright” sound that doesn’t loose too much sound quality when it gets re-recorded. I’ve never tried it with a full band type backing track, but with just an acoustic guitar recorded it works fine. You can pick up an X-Mini for under a tenner on ebay so it may be worth a shot.

I’d like to thank you all for taking the time to help me with this.
I’m off to consider my next move here.
Thanks again I really appreciate your help.
