Wondering if anyone can recommend a good delrin flute with offset finger holes.
I’m not aware of any of the most common delrin flute makers - Seery, M&E, Dixon, Rob Forbes - offering offset finger holes. But I’d love to be proved wrong!
Before anyone suggests a Tipple, I already have two (one in D, one in G) and love 'em dearly.
It doesn’t have offset finger holes, but, of Delrin flutes, I’m glad to recommend Rob Forbes’ flute, as a three piece flute which allows for adjustment of the left and right hand sections.
I don’t disagree, though I think folks like Casey Burns make a great point about offset finger holes being more ergonomically friendly.
I emailed Rob Forbes and Michael at M&E: both can do offset finger holes, so I’ve gone from zero choices to at least three great ones (these two plus Seery).
Cork - thanks for the Forbes recommendation; I’ve heard only great things about his flutes.
I can also recommend Jon C.'s flutes. I have one of his blackwood Rudall models (ordered after playing Aanvil’s Delrin Pratten, and years of watching Jon’s flutemaking evolution), and would trade my Seery for one in Delrin. I think he’s even up your way every once in a while.
Thanks, Kevin. I nearly forgot about him (tsk, tsk Walt!). My recollection is hazy … isn’t Jon C. the one who doesn’t have a Web site and from whom you can order only by phone or mail? Or am I confusing Jon with someone else?
That’s the one. Must be some monkish requirement to shut himself away from the world .
BTW, I’ve owned and played M&E and Seery. I have not played a Paddy Ward, Dave Copley Delrin, or Rob Forbes flute, but they’ve also been highly spoken of. Terry McGee has also made Delrin flutes.
