Hi,
I have completely succumbed to WhOA. Now, I am considering to buy a Bb whistle. I was thinking of a Freeman tweaked Generation one. What are your suggestions. Does nickle make a real difference in this case? Any other alternatives that come to your mind? Any helpfull comment appreciated!
Well, I don’t think you could go wrong with a Generation Bb as the guy above mentioned. I have one in Brass, and with the sticky tack tweak (boy say that fast and it’s almost a tongue twister) it’s really not a half bad whistle. Especially for 7$ or whatever it is from the whistle shop. It’s not a wonderfully amazing whistle, at least mine isn’t, but, it will definitely get the job done. Cause, I think the next step up in a Bb, is a plastic Susato.
From what I’ve heard alot is, nickle as well as aluminum, gives the whistle a “brighter” sound to it. I’m still not really sure what is meant when people say that. Maybe clearer? Little louder? Both? But I do know that nickle can be very slippery, especially if your fingers are sweaty and/or oily. I have a “nickle” Feadog, (which actually isn’t full nickle, just nickle plated. look down the inside of it and you can see brass) and it’s a very slippery guy.
Try a Generation, they’re only about 7 dollars. If you don’t like it, it’s not like you spend a great deal on it.
