Actually, you had me for a bit, too. Whilst I was reading it I was trying to find a hook so I could google it and get the whole story. Up until the Condi Rice quote - we wouldn’t try to suppress it, we would have CIA all over it trying to bring back samples.
(Maybe “living dead” wouldn’t be that unusual - we seem to have a few “living brain-dead” in the current administration)

Real zombies are something that have always been less of a stretch for me, mostly due to the fact that there are so many biological and technological horrors that “might” happen, whereas the Frankenstein monster is just plain far-off-damn-near impossible.
The Beeb site was a pretty good fake eh? with real links and everything.
The article works due to misdirection. It tries to make out that the big concern is whether or not Cambodia can be trusted with a potential biological weapon. It glosses over the zombie virus as if that is already an accepted fact by qualified scientists, and misdirects the reader’s concern into international terror, so that you don’t get a chance to think about the underlying con. Pretty cute!
