Questions for Pat Sky

I was just recently going through my record collection and was amazed to see your name on two of my favorites namely “Stone in the field” and “Forty years of Irish piping”. I,m sure a lot of people on this forum knew of your long involvement in the world of Irish music but althrough I,d heard your name before I didn,t realise the extent of your involvement .You must have some interesting stories to tell ? But I was just wondering what other recording have you produced and having meet some of the great pipers ,who is your personal favorite?

All the best

Some of you may not know that I, along with an folksinger named Lisa Null, founded Green Linnet records in 1972. Between 1972 and 1978 I produced and recorded the following recordings:

  1. Seamus Ennis " Forty Years of Irish Piping"
  2. Tommy Reck “Stone in the Field”
3 “Sailing into Walpole’s marsh” starrring Maeve Donely, Joe Ryan, Eddie Clarke, etc.
  3. Tim Lyons ( Easter Snow)
5 ) “Joe Ryan and Eddie Clark”
  4. The Singing Men of Ulster"
  5. Mick Moloney (Can’r think of the name)

As a producer I have recorded around 50 Folk music albums of other artists such as " Mississippi John Hurt"

There are more but I cannot think of them off hand.

All the best,
Pat Sky

My favorite pipers are Seamus Ennis and Tommy Reck.

Tommy Reck is also one of my favourite pipers. After Robbie Hannan’s article in the latest An Piobaire about pipers that have never listened to Ennis, Clancy, Reck etc. I was inspired to listen to the “A stone in the field” recording once more. Tommy Reck has a lovely laid back style of piping making use of both open and closed fingering. Great sound from his Kenna & Coyne sets. I see now that Marie Ni Ghrada must have listened a lot to “A stone in the field” back in the day.
