When I try to use the ABC converter at Concertina.net, it acts as if it’s taking OK, but the space where the notation should come up is blank. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? If it matters, the ABC file was initially created by conversion from a MIDI using the MIDI2ABC conversion application.
Could you post a copy of the ABC?
Sure can. How’s this:

Edited to add these comments:
The file was full of numerous errors, but I ran it through abc2nwc then nwc2abc, and that cleaned up Voice 1. Voice 2 is about a total loss I think. Either there are a bunch or wrong notes in Voice 2, or the voices are out of sync. Not at all harmonious.
The reason the Concertina site indicated that there were no errors but didn’t display anything is because the blank lines terminated the tune immediately after the header, in which there were no errors. Basically an empty tune, if you see what I mean. I think, too, that the standard actually calls for a title, but some applications will let you get by without one. Most of the errors were of the nature ‘Slur substituted for tie between notes of different pitch’. This dosen’t upset some programs, but some it does… Don’t know about Concertina. Anyway, maybe this will give you something you can work with.
Voice 2 was much shorter than Voice 1. I don’t know what sort of problem that causes. Not yet sufficiently proficient with ABC.

I see two possible problems.
-
You’ve got blank lines in the abc source code, the first of which is right after the headers. A blank line signifies the end of a tune.
-
The abc converter at concertina.net may or may not support the V: field for multiple voices. The V: field is not “official” abc, per the current standard, which is available at
http://www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc/
Rather, V: is an extension to standard abc used in some packages but not others.
So the bottom line is, this multi-voice abc code may be more than the converter at concertina.net can handle. You might try a simple hand-coded experiment to test the multi-voice capability.

Thanks
The problem, of course, is that I don’t read ABC and needed a more traditional score. I was able to use a freeware MIDI converter to convert the thing to whistle tablature, but I really don’t like doing it that way. No doubt the original MIDI had some problems, or perhaps damage occurred in the download process.

Out of curiosity, what converter are you using for this?
A thing called Tablature Karaoke. I found it by searching old messages here at C&F on the subject of MIDI files.
A thing called Tablature Karaoke. I found it by searching old messages here at C&F on the subject of MIDI files. One thing I noticed was that it indicated several unknown notes on the tablature image, however looking at the converted score it appears that these were the A and B below the low C and there was no way to show them in whistle tablature. If that makes any sense at all.
Thanks, I remember seeing it now…
