Q: about a Goldie narrow bore G!

Greetings fellow Chiffers!

I rairly start threads but I hope this is a topic worth bringing to the whistleing collective.

I recently got my Goldie F in the mail and enjoy playing it a lot!
I have read many posts about people who own Goldie F’s which is why I bought mine. Now that I have the F, I am thinking about getting a G.
The narrow bore G sounded like an interesting prospect. I know there are many other G’s on the market and I have read similar threads on the topic. I talked to Colin on the phone about the charachteristics of his new design. The major difference between the larger bore is that the narrow is quieter and easier to blow.

Q: Are there any owners of a Goldie G or narrow bore who would care to give me your thoughts on it?

Thanks for your help,
Nathan

hi nathan,

sorry, i don’t have own any overtons but i believe the main thing is to go for the overton bore wich feels most comfortable in your hands.

Thanx Lixnaw,
Hole spacing is not a consideration in this matter! I was hoping that at least one person out there in Chifferworld might actually own a Goldie narrow bore G! I have personally never read any reviews to this date!

Does anyone out there own one of these fine instruments???

Comments, reviews??

Mr. Nate

I don’t actually own an Overton narrow bore G, BUT I was so fortunate to meet Colin and Brigitte at the Tønder festival last weekend, where they had a huge display of whistles (see pics in the ‘Tønder Festival’ thread).
Jens and I spent most of our time in there, talking and playing whistles and flutes.

Anyways, I got to try the narrow bore G.
Colin told about the O Riordan whistles he has and how responsive and pure sounding they are. The narrow bore G is inspired to have some of the same qualities - only stronger in tone. Now this is one VERY responsive whistle and would take some getting used to to play for me, especially the bottom notes (mostly because my low F really needs to be pushed)
Lovely sweet and pure sound.
Very easy to play fast and easy reach into the second and even third octave!

When Brian Finnegan tried this whistle he told Colin he wanted a Low F like this - he’ll probably do quadruple tonguing on it or something.

Hope this helps.
Best,
Jeroen

You did?! I don’t remember such a beast at all.

Now, the narrow bore low C, on the other hand…!

Thanks Jeroen!!
That is great press! I have one on order already, I was just hoping for some conformation that I made the right choice.
Brother Steve was also kind enough to send me an e-mail telling me about his narrow bore G “It is a fabulous whistle - very playable and with a great sound”
Brigitte said there might be one left over from the festival but if its that good maybe somone bought it (?) I Haven’t heard anything from her yet.
Also, thanks for posting your pics from the Tonder Festival!
Nate
