PVC

Ran across a how-to on PVC Kaval making and remembered that several people like making PVC flutes on the board. So I decided it would be fun to make a list of different PVC flute designs. Don’t know if they all work or even good designs, I just found it interesting.

Nice list.

Ive made a few.

Doug’s numbers are good even if its a bit of a stretch.

Start from there and use flutomat to make some minor adjustments.

Cutting different Emb. shapes is rather fun and very interesting. Well it is to me anyway.

If you would rather have a small and handy fife. Here is an experiment I tried, and it worked!

From great minds, come great ideas! From unusual minds come, well … unusual ideas! > > :stuck_out_tongue: >

I’ve long thought the problem with most fifes is the embouchure chimney is to short for my tastes.

So I took a section of 1" Oak Dowel and drilled a 5/8" hole through it for insertion of my Bb Generation whistle body. I drilled the hole 3mm off-center to further my chimney depth (~7.75mm). The embouchure is drilled with a 3/8" bit and sanded smooth on the inside.

Here’s a Pic:

The results are a rather mellow sounding fife (not at all shrill or harsh). Plays well, but has to be pushed to go up to the top of the 2nd. Oct.

The other fife is just for scale!

All the Best!

Very cool, Jordan. That’s a trick I might just have to try. Does the head slide to make it tunable?
