I’ve been looking to buy some whistles, but don’t know any reliable decent stores online that sell them, besides Harp and Dragon. My local stores seem to not know anything about tin whistles.
Any help? ![]()

Not sure where you are located but be sure to check out http://www.whistleanddrum.com and http://www.thewhistleshop.com
I’ll add these as well.

I have also purchased from Harp and Dragon but prefer to do that in person when they are at a local festival.
I am not sure what you may be looking for but I would suggest buying directly from the maker any time you can. When you do that you start a relationship that could last a long time and you won’t generally get better service.

If you don’t mind ordering from overseas I can recommend http://www.bigwhistle.co.uk/
in Great Britain. Phil Brown is nice to deal with and is a professional whistle player himself, and very good at it too.
I buy all my cheap whistles from Bigwhistle, and I’m very satisfied.
Very reliable and very decent,-you will not regret ordering from Bigwhistle Music.
all of my high D’s and C’s are bought from them. Great and reliable site.
I also recommend Bigwhistle. Just bought ‘Cillian O’Brian New Improved High D Brass Whistle’ from them.
Contact Patrick “Doc” Jones at theirishflutestore.com - he’s got reasonable prices, great selection, great ethics, and is just an all around terriffic person. Please buy from him. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!

All of the above.
Do take custom charges, taxes, import fees etc. into consideration !
I ordered direct from Alba a month ago and haven’t been able to get them to answer an email since. They did finally charge my card a couple of weeks ago, so I have hope that something’s happening.
I’ve had good experiences at www.thewhistleshop.com and www.irishflutestore.com has a great selection.
Ah, you’ve bought it
Let me know how it plays!

Thanks for the kind words Todd but you forgot “dashingly handsome” ![]()
There’s no “the” by the way, it’s just https://www.irishflutestore.com/
I’ve purchased from http://thewhistleshop.com/ and had excellent service. Mitch at http://ozwhistles.com/ is also a lovely guy as is Blaine at http://whistleanddrum.com/
Don’t have any experience with the others.
Several makers also sell directly online.
If anyone’s keeping score, count this as my CP for the month. ![]()
Doc
i use big whistle 100% give em a phone very nice folks
I have ordered from Lark in the Morning and had no problems…
Depending on where you live, you may want to consider buying direct if you are interested in more than mass produced whistles. Many whistle makers have web sites and are willing to answer questions by email or phone.
If you are new to whistling, you should know that you can order replacement heads for stock whistles as well as “tweaked” versions that bring out the best in off-the-shelf whistles.
Where can you get replacement heads for whistles?
Thanks,
Pete
Mack Hoover sells good mouthpieces. Quite expensive though
For mouthpieces see also

Hi BlackFire_,
But they are worth the price.
I highly recommend the Blacktop fipple on a Generation brass tube.
You can get the Generation whistles at most of the on-line stores mentioned previously or from Mack.
I prefer to order the Generation whistles separately as that way, I have the original fipple to experiment with. My last order (3 D brass Generations and one C) all had good fipples, but I have replaced them (one of each key C, D and Bb) with Whitecaps and Blacktops.
They take some practice to learn to play as they take very little air compared to my favorite whistles, the Clarke original design and my Parks Whistles Every Whistle.
Expensive? Depends on how you look at it.
I played a Burke aluminum D (about $170 the the last time I looked) side by side with my Hoover blacktop for a week. Nice as the Burke is, the sound of the Hoover wins out for me.
Hoover whistles tend to be on the quiet side, but Mack can give you more volume if you want. But a quiet whistle is not a bad thing when you are learning. ![]()
Look for the “sticky” post at the top of this forum about tweaked whistles. Good info.
