Hi to all.
I’m not a irish music player, but now I need to buy a couple of whistle (a freeman, a susato or a dixon, but this is not the main point).
The problem is: How can I buy a whistle from Italy?
I imagine that I’m forced to buy it from the internet, but i have no idea about what’s the best and most affordable site on the market, ( I prefer european sites because, being the instrument not very expensive, I don’t want to spend many euros in postal or custom charges).
Better is a very subjective term. The Freeman and Susato whistles will have their fans, as will the Syn and Impempe.
I own Syns, Susatos and an Impempe low D, they are all good whistles and play nicely, even in my inexpert hands. Where the Syn or Impempe whistles would score are in their robustness, they can take much more abuse than a Freeman or Susato whistle. (My Syn has withstood me standing on it, and I am no lightweight).
If you are thinking of stretching your budget to a Syn or Impempe, then consider stretching it a little more and look at the Syn Bb/C/D set as well, as this will give you greater scope for only a little extra outlay.
BigDavy is right. Freeman, Susato, Syn and Impempe are all good whistles and each has their own merits. They can be worlds apart from each other as far as playing characteristics, dynamics, timbre and volume though. So you might want to hone in on what you are expecting or looking for in that regard.
And I would think you would want to talk to Guido Gonzato too, as Stanton suggested. He’s an Italian maker of whistles. His whistles play well, sound nice and are quite affordable. He started out making whistles after making the same considerations you have over buying whistles from abroad. http://www.ggwhistles.com/
