Because of the weird way my brain works your comment reminded me of this lightly humorous song:
(I hope it doesn’t offend anyone for some reason.)

(written by Mark Graham, but the Bryan Bowers version is the one I know.)
I think that’s lovely. Beautiful, peaceful song. Very gentle humour indeed, and seems like genuine affection for both the old and new (replacement?) congregations.
Thanks for that. ![]()
I’ve decided I’m a Zen Foodist.
Nom.
Our Catholic Church (a very small, rural, informal church) recently decided to start “chanting” the Responsorial Psalm. Our folk group is having a time blending our style and abilities into a chant. The electric keyboard definitely has to take the lead with acoustic guitar picking to broaden the sound. I couldn’t get the whistle to blend in with chanting. This will come to us in time.
You did come up with some really good questions and the responses have been interesting too.
Elvellon here’s some of the sort of Celtic-influenced contemporary “praise music” I was talking about.
Note the use of the Irish whistle, quite lovely.

I’ve performed live, many times, several of these Revival in Belfast songs, which call for uilleann pipes and/or whistles.
I think the most fun I’ve ever had playing music was performing the following song live at a local church, screaming out in the high octave of the uilleann pipes over singers, drum kits, and electric guitars (this YouTube version doesn’t have pipes, I don’t think)

and here with an uilleann introduction
Here’s some of the modern Roman Catholic hymns which have a somewhat Celtic flavor
Then there are the compositions of modern Christian songwriters Keith & Kirstyn Getty, who are Irish, but who are now living in Nashville.
Their work usually includes uilleann pipes and whistles.
Here is one of their songs, a great video which shows of the pipes very well

I had the great fortune to tour with the Gettys and their band as a substitute piper/whistler. They are terrific people and write great songs!
Wow! You toured with the Gettys! Who is their main piper/whistler? Is it Patrick D’Arcy or does it depend on where they’re touring?

We do both of these songs. There’s a descant to Sing Out Earth and Skies that fun to play on the whistle. I love descants. I can’t sing them but I can play them.

I think it’s Patrick, but I’m not sure, you might ask him. All I know is that I was subbing for Patrick. That video I linked to has a piper I don’t recognize.
Here’s my little post-tour report

Explain Church?
Who can? Yea… but I have a question. Why don’t the wafers taste better? I’d think BBQ or Cool Ranch would be a big hit. Papa get on that ok?
