How can I learn to play Irish style on my pennywhistle?
You may wish to start by looking into recordings of Irish whistle music…go for the traditional stuff.
Hi Lynn, The Poststructural whistle Board is probably a better place here to go for info specific to tin whistle.–Also, I’m not sure of the address of this so you could google it but check out Brother Steve’s Tin Whistle Pages- Seems like a great tutorial. -mike
Brother Steve’s is undoubtedly the best place to start.
You should also try to get some tuition to get you started, to get a feel for the music and to master basic techniques. Listening to recordings is also extremely important, but if you can’t figure out what they’re doing you’re in danger of imitating just the speed and missing out the subtleties.
Also check out the Clarke whistle tutor written by Bill Ochs.
Very good stuff, starts assuming you’re a complete beginner and takes you up through some pretty advanced stuff, at your own pace.

Welcome to the Board Lynn,
I have been trying to work out the meaning of the last few posts here and I have just realised that you have been placing your reply into the Post Subject line.
Around these parts Folks usually place their replys after the quote. I was going to put this into a private message but I thought you might not be aware of how that function works ,being a newbie.
Hope this helps a bit,
Slan,
D.

Thanks. This makes more sense. My being a “newbie” was obvious, right? I appreciate your taking the time to help me.
