Dear Pipers,
I play regularly with a box player who’s very nice but a bit loud and frankly I now know all his tunes better than he does. My problem is that I want to play with others without offending him.
Should I tell him out straight that I want to start playing with others or should I just make excuese and tell him my reeds are off or something.
We live in a small locality and are expected to show up together every Tuesday.

Living in a small town ,people will talk and your partner is bound to hear the whispers, better to hear it from you rather than someone else.
But if you do decide to not tell him,be sure ,if your playing around to play safe, and not pick up any new varations on tunes as your partner will get suspicious!!!

Ciotog, is it basically your gig? If so, I’m thinking that there shouldn’t be too much amiss if you put it that you wanted to rotate other guest artists into the schedule. Your box player would have his day for fairness’ sake, too, just not every time.
