…“not guarenteed to “fit” in every make of chanter”… ![]()
Really??? You don’t say!
Thanks but I’d rather keep my £5.22 and invest it in Nortel. Better likelihood of a return on my investment.
I also play highland pipes - and plastic chanter reeds are ONLY for practice chanters. I have never played a plastic chanter reed in my big pipes that is equal in sound, tone or quality to a good 'ole fashion wooden reed.
…that’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth ![]()
I knew that Clanrye has made GHB plastic reeds in three types of hardness, but the look of this Galore reed hasn´t nothing to do with Uilleann.
The only proven plastic Uilleann reed that really works is that it was developed by David Daye, the recipe for making it is in his site and it also has a sound sample of the reed played in a DMQuinn chanter through two octaves and it tunes pretty well.
Obviously it sounds like plastic. ![]()
Ah for feck sake! ![]()
NO plastic, NO, NO, NO and Please NO. I heard it once from a player who experiment a lot with making reeds from Jogurt plastic and it sounded at least awful. But I still believe and feel that some genious will come out in near future with a Carbon made reed which will work. I am sure it can be made from someone, who realy understands reeds and can copy superb reed, but it will be wery hard to do it, but possible. I have seen many acoustically important parts made from this material in Hi end musical instruments, which at first looked totaly impossible and negative. Almoust anything created in mind can be made and it will be in near future. And then we will see leather, schellack and hide glue only in museums. But still hope wood and cane will stay. ![]()
