Pictures and descriptions of Jim Daily Uilleann Pipes

Hi folks! I’m trying to find as much info as I can please of drone and regulator designs by the late Glasgow pipe maker Jim Daily. I can find nothing by internet search as his website has long since been discontinued. Would there be be anyone out there with a set of his unique pipes willing to take and post pictures please? Especially close ups of the drones and regulators. I’m especially curious about his keyless regs. And obviously any technical info such as measurements etc would be great.

Many thanks

Tom

The wayback machine has some snapshots of his website. The photos aren’t the best quality, but they are something.

From his website:

Introducing a new design halfway between a half set and full set.

Jim won the “All Britain” piping competition (2001) on this arrangement. After the event the adjudicator said;

“You get a great sound out of a basic looking set of pipes”.

This unique design has the following benefits:

Flowing Legato sound (impossible to acheive with traditional regulators which produce a staccato note).

Easy to tune with only three reeds to adjust.

Light and Comfortable to play with fewer parts in the set.

The set has the usual bag, bellows and chanter with the following drones:

Bass D, drone which does not change note.

The middle pipe plays A, with a key which when pressed plays G.

The treble pipe plays D with a key which when pressed plays F-sharp.

The keys are arranged so that when they are pressed together YOU CAN GET A D CHORD AND A G CHORD.

Thanks Hambone, the pictures aren’t showing so clear on here when zoomed in, but the info on the keys and notes they play is helpful.

Would you believe I was offered a full set of these by Jim once? I was interested in uilleanns and heard his name somewhere, got his number and phoned him. I was single and earning not a lot, lol. Jim was going to make me a set and let me have them while just paying them up. I think it was only a couple thousand total. Can’t remember exactly. But to me that might have been a million then. So I didn’t take them. If I could turn the clock back. :grin:
