The brand I see most often (read: vending machine at work) is Miss Vickie’s - look for a green bag. Canadian friends claimed this as a Canadian brand and flavor, but a google search shows this as belonging to Frito Lay, so it ought to be pretty easy to find. (The same google search showed LOTS of local brands of Jalapeno chips, so don’t despair if you can’t find this particular brand).
Actually, they aren’t too hot - jalapeno taste with a touch of vinegar and mild level of spiciness. Good, almost addictive, but I’d still prefer 'em to be hotter. Of course, I’m also the guy who asks for “Thai Hot” at a Thai restaurant and puts Habanero sauce on his eggs because Tabasco is too mild, so calibrate accordingly
Here in Washington State, we have Tim’s Cascade Chips. Many flavors, including jalapeno. No buffalo, unfortunately. Kettle cooked and super thick and crunchy.
Are you related to my husband by any chance? I like hot food too, but I don’t think he’s FOUND anything he considers really hot yet! The man has been known to eat Habaneros raw (and yes…he once got a Thai chef to cry mercy!)
Have you ever had Gil’s Gourmet “Simply Zinful” habanero salsa with Zinfandel? That is my all-time favorite salsa (and made in Sand City, near Monterey, so it’s beautifully available here…I used to have to order it when we lived in North Carolina!)
I don’t know, Redwolf - I’ve got enough cousins it’s within the bounds of possibility but since I’ve never met him (that I know of), I can’t really say.
But I don’t claim to be the hottest eater around - there are a few hot sauces out there I can eat that I don’t much like (all hot, no other flavor) - I like habanero because it tastes good.
We buy it on occasion - not my absolute favorite, but good. My wife and I both like it, but we go through a lot more bottled hot sauces. My current favorite is probably the regular “Hot Sauce from Hell” brand, which balances heat with flavor beautifully. (I don’t like their “Devil’s Revenge” sauce as much - more heat, but almost no other flavor)
