OT: Fife playing (jim_mc out there?)

I’ve got a ‘military’ style Bb fife (oak with banded metal ends, the standard $30 kind, nothing special). Being that it is necessary to practice this beast out-of doors, and being that I’m going to be in the woods of Vermont this weekend, I was hoping that someone out there could possibly give me fingering and/or playing tips. I play the flute and the whistle, and have played the fife successfully in the fundamental and the first set of overtones, but I understand it’s meant to be played in the first and second set of overtones, using the fundamental tones only sparingly (like touching the third octave on a whistle kind of sparingly

Chris:

You don’t have your e-mail address listed, so I can’t contact you directly. If you’ll e-mail me, I’ll get a fingering chart off to you, along with some recommendations.

I’m working on a web site, but it’s probably still a ways off. I got a really cool domain name, though: irishwhistler.com!
