OT: concertina

hello
i have own or acutally borrowed an English concertina from a friend. I have had it for a while, and have been able to figure out how to play a couple songs including the kesh jig. my question is what scale does a stagi 48 button English concertina play only using the center two rows. i am not sure if it is treble or whatever. P.S. i was hoping Caj would answer this because i know he plays concertina.
Thank you
Andrew Cassidy

Your question, like all questions, are welcome here. I did want to point out an excellent resource:

Tell 'em we said hello.

Well, I don’t play the English, but I know it’s a C scale, and spans the treble clef and then some. Here’s a chart for you:

You’ll notice that the left-hand buttons all fit the lines of a musical staff, while the right-hand buttons fill the spaces. Logical! It’s probably one of the easiest instruments to sight-read from sheet music. This chart only shows 34 buttons; for 48 buttons, you often extend the range higher above the treble clef.

Wendina would know better than I do, because she actually sells these things at HMT.

Dale do you play concertina? (if so anglo or english). Also Dale have you done anything with my review on syn whistles yet?

Generally, Stagi’s standard 48 button English range begins from the G below middle C. The middle row is the key of C. What Dale said about concertina.net is true - it is a fantastic website and the forum members are ready and willing to help.

Playing the English concertina is so much fun. As Caj indicated it is a superior instrument for reading music because of the easy to comprehend button arrangement. It’s also quite addictive.

BTW, I have a Stagi English and a Wheatstone 64 button English (an awesome instrunent), as well as a couple of cheap anglos. My favorite, by far is the Wheatstone English.

Best wishes,

.

The man that lent me the stagi also owned a wheastone and another beautiful concertina, but i can not ready the name. He didn’t really play the stagi much so he lent it to me.
