O'Riordan low D for sale on eBay

Hi. I just wanted to let you all know that I’m selling my beautiful low D Patrick O’Riordan whistle this week on eBay. I’m looking for a buyer with big hands who can make it sing. Thanks.

dang.. i really really wish i had the money for that one.. :boggle:

If anyone’s having trouble finding it, click here.

Marcia–I also own an O’Riordan low D, and I wanted to share something with you … in case you want to consider keeping the instrument. I don’t have tiny hands, but they aren’t real big (I’m 5’2"–so neither am I). The way I can EASILY play low whistles is by using my right hand pinkie to finger the bottom hold. I just kindof pretend that it’s attached to my 4th finger, and the transition from using my 4th to using my pinkie is nearly effortless. Frankly, Pat’s whistles are so far superior to any others, I can’t imagine selling mine because it is harder to play (it is). You’ll never find another whistle that even comes close in purity of tone.

It looks like a whistle from what is known as the Traveler group that Pat makes. It has an aluminum body and a delrin mouthpiece.

I have always wanted to try one of these, but the ultimate price this one will most likely reach… :astonished:

I should imagine that this one will go for the price of a small house.

Thanks for your suggestion. That is how I’ve managed to play the whistle…still very poorly (sigh). It is a lovely instrument and I’ve thought long and hard about parting with it. I think because it is so beautiful and makes such lovely music it should belong to someone who can play it properly. Whistles don’t make very pretty music sitting in a cabinet. I know it will make someone very happy.

I have a beautiful wooden C O’Riordan that I love to play. I also have a Bleazey low D and even with small hands and limited skill I can make music on it. The spacing is tighter and the holes are smaller. It has an interesting low clarinet-like sound that I enjoy quite a lot. It’s not an O’Riordan certainly, but still quite nice. See, the real problem is that you all gave me a severe case of WhOA a couple of years ago and one requirement of rehab is that I part with some of these whistles. The big beautiful O’Riordan is the one that I play the least and that most deserves a new home.

I can really appreciate what you’re saying. I just hate to have fine instruments sitting around that I don’t play! It feels really wrong, somehow. Well, good luck with the sale, and enjoy your other wonderful whistles too.

My wife LOVES my Bleazey low d. She calls it my “Seducer.” My first was Mopane and my current one is Olive. What wood did you get?

Steven, I believe I bought your mopane. If memory serves (and it doesn’t most of the time these days) you were coveting the olive set at the time and selling off your mopane. I bought the D and the A. Can that be right? Sheez. If that’s the case that would mean I have the original “Seducer.” I need to make better use of this thing!

That sounds quite familiar. I have obtained the olive set since then. I will be playing the low d in church today, along with my wife on her Burns flute.
