For the past few months, I’ve been researching chanters to buy. My financial situation isn’t the best (student debt is weighing down on me), but I have enough to purchase a quality chanter. I’ve limited my choices to 1.) Andreas Rogge, 2.) Eugene Lambe, and 3.) Burton&Wyatt based off of their prices and quality of sound, but I’d like to hear what everyone’s opinions are on them!
There is a Rogge practice set on eBay right now that has been re-listed (see the eBay thread), that may be a way to ease the pressure on your student debt. (Assuming you live in the EU).

I play a Burton&Wyatt Holly chanter with C and F nat keys. It is every bit as good as my old Cillian chanter and I would have no hesitation in recommending their work.
Another very good maker is Dave Lim from Manchester. I am very impressed with his work and his prices are very reasonable.
Where do you live? I would suggest you obtain a practice set from a maker close to you. Preferably buy from a maker who will be accessible for reed tweaking and / or new reeds as and when needed. If there is no one close to you, I would buy from a maker familiar with your climate. If there is no such person, plan on learning to make reeds.
