Hey everyone! I’ve been playing for a few years. Stumbled on this whistle, wanted to ask you guys here what you thought about it. I can’t tell the markings, but there seems to be a V, and it might say “Madhu” on it. It makes a very pretty sound actually. Sorry for the poor pictures, all I could do right now.
I just sent you a PM regarding this whistle.
I am certain that the word “madhu” is followed by “bansuri” and thus would mean “sweet flute”. It is Indian made and terribly difficult to trace to a particular manufacturer. These were probably made in any number of small metalwork shops and collected up for export. Some can indeed play well, others not so.
I have an old Johil flute (actually whistle) in A that plays pretty good if you tape every hole on the instrument in just the right way! ![]()
