Ok so what's with this whole avatar thingie?!

I’ve been Chiff and Fippling for years now.

Every six months or so I try to put an avatar up for myself. I spend a half hour or so at it and can’t get it done. :imp:

I’m starting to feel self-concious. I mean fer cryin’ out loud there’s all kinds of folks on these forums and lots of them don’t even have letters at the end of their name and they all have really cool avatars.

Could some kind soul please enlighten a dumb old cow vet as to how such technological wonderss are achieved? :frowning:

Doc, what do you mean ‘can’t get it done’? What happens?

If you have a photo or pic that you’d like as an avatar and its too big, send it to me (or one of the others) and we’ll resize it if you’re not familiar with the technique.

Now that I’ve changed my avatar (first time ever)…I feel kinda dizzy

You just have to make sure the image is less than 100x100 pixels and under 20KB. You can use paint or any other imaging program to do that. Feel free to PM me if you want specific instruction.

Anywa, the picture has to be 100x100 pixels or smaller. Are you using the right size of picture?

Anyhow, I’m in the same boat as Doc. I’m not sure I could figure it out if I went back and read everything again. I just gave up after I puzzled for a while. If there’s an easy tutorial, I’d give it another try.

I used to post them but I can’t do it either. I have a 17K image loaded up at my so-called public folder but CF says it’s an empty URL. So I loaded it to my so-called public unlimited briefcase but CF says its more than 20K, which it isn’t, unless you count all the white space on that flash page I guess. I do remember doing it once, but can’t remember where from… The problem always seems to be Yahoo as opposed to those Snapfish type of places, I guess.

Not as easy for some…

Have you tried uploading it from staight off of your hard drive?

D’oh!! Not only didn’t I notice that, but I was looking at image size in Photoshop which was 17K, but according to the file info it was 72K. So I made it indexed color into a gif and that seemed to work…

I love/hate computers and mourn my evaporating aptitude with 'em (if I ever had it).

Hm.. mebbe I’ll be like Cran and change it all the time…
