I’ve got an Oak D, it plays fine in the first ocatve and the 1st d in the 2nd octave is fine. Anything higher than that has a “shadow” of sorts. I don’t know the lingo, but the notes don’t play sweet and clear - kind of slightly hoarse. Does this indicate the need for a tweekjob? And if that’s the case, could you refer me to the instructions? Thanks ps. I did order a Burke d narrow aluminum, and can’t wait to get it.
Yes…very few Oaks that I have played didn’t need to be tweaked. need any help on how to tweak it just PM me or search the forum under the word 'tweak". There are several tweaking masters on here.
All three of my Oaks needed the sticky-tack tweak. Fill in the volume underneath the windway with poster-hanging putty, silly putty, or whatever. I’ve found that helps exactly the problem you’re having.
Yeah, the sticky tac. I’ve done some very minor bending on the blade of one of mine. Not just the end of the blade, but as much of it and the ramp as I could get to bend. My first one I tried putting extra blade underneath as well. It didn’t really improve it much, but made it a tad quieter.
The blade bending thing I’ve been doing lately with whistles that I couldnt get tweaked just like I like them. I look down the windway, and look for a thin sliver of light under the blade. If there isn’t any, the whistle tends to be a bit sweet, quiet, and flute-like. Increasing the distance gives some necessary chiffy goodness. Too much space, and it’s too breathy and raw.
Btw, it takes a little force to get the blade and ramp to move. Not a huge amount, but some. I use an electricians instrument screwdriver. A cheap one, like companies give away.
