I’m thinking about trying out some generation whistles. From an asthetic point of view, I like the nickel whistles with the blue fipple. But I had read that they are shriller than the brass whistles. Is this true? Anyone have experience with the nickel whistles?
I usually buy nickel ones if I have the choice, they are a bit brighter but only by a degree not so much you’d call them ‘shriller’.
I would say what Peter said. I have a few brass and nickel gens that I’ve done some amount of tweaking to, and to me the difference in sound is fairly subtle. I think the nickel ones are a bit brighter when you’re doing some ornamentation, but they aren’t shriller.
I’ve got a nickel Generation Eb that is heavenly…the perfect amount of brightness and pop. If you can, try out as many as you can to get the best in the bunch…
I prefer the nickel Gens. They do seem brighter to me. It does not cost much to get one of each. I particularly like the Eb and Bb nickel Gens.

Say Adrian, how about a 5’‘x7’’ of your cool avatar.
Saw Cathal McConnell the other night playing a nickel Eflat Gen - and it sounded unbelievably focused, sweet and all those words we use to say we like the way it sounded; this though may be attributable to the player mostly. ![]()

Thanks guys!
thewhistleshop.com has all six as a set for about $33 (brass) and $37 (nickel); which is a deal because a store that is in my state that carries them charge $10 for each whistle (so it would be about $60 for all six!). I think it would be nice to have different keys of whistle to play with.
The whistleshop? Isn’t Thom out of business or sick or something? Maybe another on line store would have the same thing.
