Nice Fentum flute on Ebay

Looks like a very nice Fentum flute on ebay. If only I wasn’t broke… (flute poor) :sniffle:

Don’t feel too bad, Jon. Some of us are poor all the time.

It’s a beautiful flute though.

I can totally relate…:sunglasses:
I already have a Fentum, they are great players.

Okay, I’ll take this chance to look really dumb. Does anybody else see this as a bluish-purplish flute? If so, then why?

Digital cameras… Some of the other photos that were posted were more color balanced. Here is more color balanced photo:
That is the proper color of mint dental floss… :sunglasses:

Yummmm… MINTY!

What I’m looking at is how THIN that socket is. :astonished:

Ah, that’s MUCH better. I saw the initial photos and was trying to get my head wrapped around the idea of “anodized cocus.”

Hi all,

I’m a total flute beginner (background piano) and I’m currently taking lessons to learn the concert flute (trad lessons weren’t available in Listowel - fancy that…) just to learn the basics of fingering etc.

Do you think that this flute on Ebay would be worth going for as a beginner? I can’t afford a huge amount on a trad flute but would LOVE to have one to get going…

Thanks all,

Marion

I have a similar Fentum flute. The flute is really a sweet player. Mine has a quite narrow bore and a beatiful sound. The craftmanship is excellent. Depending on what kind of flute you are after, I think this could be something worth considering. I would like to place a bid myself, but i don’t want to fall in the “collectors trap”

Good luck

For someone starting out, I think a keyless flute by a modern maker is a better way to go (and probably cheaper–I bet the final bid will be quite a bit higher than it is at the moment). You’ve got a number of fine makers in Ireland, like Martin Doyle, Eamonn Cotter, Hammy Hamilton, Sam Murray, Glenn Watson…

Some have shorter waiting lists than others. I believe Crehan’s in Dublin has Doyle flutes on hand.

You can find links to various makers’ websites here: http://www.firescribble.net/flute/makers.html

Oh now… none of you want that moldy old flute.

Its old.

Go get a new one.

And perhaps if some of you would quit out bidding me I might be able to get it at a reasonable price.

:swear:

Thanks all for your advice - you’re right, Aanvil. I want a new flute, so new it squeaks when I blow

Seriously, I suppose buying a flute from Ebay is a gamble, particularly for a beginner…

Marion

If you go for the new flute, but want people to think it’s vintage, there are some threads here that will teach you how to grow mold on it by keeping it in a Tupperware box with a humidifier. What a great resource this is!!

I played Jon’s Fentum and it was amazing…in fact the Fentum head sounded great on many of the othe flutes as well…he didn’t want to part with it alas.

Jon did you get my email?

Hi,
I am up in San Jose right now. I was just getting ready to return your email.
That Fentum is one of my best flutes, and I have a lot of nice ones… It is really close to the Rudall and Rose that I am working on.

$1,175.00

Is it anyone here?

You didn’t get it then? :frowning:
