I meant that there’ll be like a 90 angle brake
So you could hold it not sideways but whistle-ways.

I have seen a flute like this, made of pvc pipe. It is “T” shape, with the embouchure hole cut in the side of the T. The T is very short, with both sides stoppered. You hold it like a whistle and blow across the T. There is a picture somewhere on the internet, but I can’t remember where. I saw one made by Australian harp and flute maker Andy Rigby.

Mike Allen makes an “omni-directional” headjoint, which can apparently be adjusted to any angle:

Making something like that out of wood would be something of a challenge I suspect!

Yes. In Hackett’s case, he had the headjoint made to fit his Sankyo flute. I doubt it’s “one size fits all”. You’d need to send the flute to the headjoint maker so he could make it an exact fit.

Of coarse if you don’t want all the keys on the flute you can always find an end blown flute like the ney, kaval, xiao, shakuhachi, hocchiku, danso, or quena.

Actually all other types we know of allready right?
Being the special thing here is the flute mouthpiece - which is special in its way.

I tried playing the Ney once, couldn’t get a sound out of it - just couldn’t.

I guess this idea will fade - If I knew how to construct flutes - i might’ve start trying making an irish flute like those flutelabs.
