Newbie, really disappointed with Clarke Celtic (Sweetone)

good that you gave it another chance!

running out of breath is normal at the beginning (one never has to much air)

i recomend:
learn to read notation, its great to be able learning and playing by ear, but being able to read notation is great too, why not learning both
you only have to decide which notation system

  • for the dots get bill ochs book (i am learning it with that book right now)
  • for abc use google (i will learn that later too, i want to know it)

Yes, especially your neighbours…

If you already know the theory, why not getting used to playing from sheet right from the start? You’d be able to play all the stuff on the mustard board (and other resources) without any troubles.

Yeah, it’s relatively easy to learn to play, but perhaps not so easy to learn to play well.

There are so many relatively cheap whistles you can find that somehow retain the flavor of the music moreso than the Sweetones, which I abhor on long term aesthetic and musical grounds. If you’re starting out, experiment with Faedogs, Waltons, Gens, Susatos and take a leap to a Freeman Bluebird (that should stop you for a good long while). Have fun.
