Ok, I’ve solved my problem of getting a set. I’ve got a practice set on loan from a friend until such time as he gets a paying student (lucky me, he’s teaching me for free!) Nice chanter, bellows, not-so-great bag, but he’s using the MacHarg bag that came with it for his C set. The chanter is keyless, and I know a lot of tunes don’t have a second octave Cnat. My question is, how many tunes have that note and what are some of them? I can’t think of any offhand, though I probably play a few of them. I’ve never really bothered to notice since when playing the fiddle, it’s not an issue
I’d still like to order a nice set of my own at some point, but since I may be using this one for quite some time, I was naturally curious.
A few tunes have high C natural. One that comes to mind is Trim The Velvet.
You can most of the time find an alternative note, but the above tune just dosen’t work without the high C nat.
Oh yes The Stone in The Field has high C nat in the second part.
Ye don’t need a key.
Chanter on knee…
Get the 2nd octave C# then open the bottom hand ring finger at the same time closing the C#..easy ![]()
Slán Go Foill
Uilliam
Oh, ok. Well, I’m certainly not at the point where it’s an issue yet. I was just curious.
Is the chanter blocked for a Cnat key? You could have someone add a Cnat key.
Well, it’s not mine, loaner. I’d rather save that money towards my own set. It is blocked though.
