Hey guys!
Just wondering if you could recommend me some workshops for flute and pipes in Ireland. I’m planning to go there on June/July 2012. I think I’d be also very useful to take a couple of private lessons with any flute or pipes player. Someone you could recommend? Na piobairi uilleann for the pipes, maybe?
I’m also posting this on the pipes forum…
Hi DarkFlipes (strange name)
If you are in Milltown Malbay, you can inform about Brid O’Donohue. She is a good fluteplayer and gives lessons. There is also a slow session there which starts early on wednesday. Just ask for it when you are there
Best,
Ronnie
“Thanks for your replies, guys!
Is there any restriction for foreigners? I mean, regarding registration, for example…”
Just the usual rules and regulations. When you enter the first compound they will take your fingerprints and you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks. You will then be handed a set of uilleann pipes and ordered to play a set of 3 reels: The bucks of Oranmore, Lord Gordon’s & Little Katie Taylor. You will be then ordered to sing a lament in Irish. If you are not considered worthy then you will be asked to immediately join the queue across the road and wait for a lorry that will take you to Shannon Airport
Yeah, I remember that from my last stay at the Willie Week, I found it weird they need a litre of it for testing. Too bad they don’t change the syringes, but at least they wipe them with an oilcloth.
Hey guys!
Just wondering if any of you know how much is the fee? I understand you pay for the whole week… is that right or you can still arrange just a couple of lessons?
Keep an eye on WCSS website. Note it hasn’t been updated yet, things may be a bit delayed this year due to the recent death of the school’s director. This year’s Scoil Samhraidh will commence on Saturday 7th July 2012
In the brochure it says 140 euro, 140 pounds sterling or 200 USD. That’s 5 days of classes for 3 hours per day, and I think the pipes classes continue on Saturday as well, so 6 days. Plus free entry to all the concerts. I’ve never done the classes myself but for that price I’d say they’re well worth it.
Hey guys, my trip is coming so I was wondering if anybody could help me again this time regarding the WCSS schedule.
I’ve read their brochure and it says the registration goes from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. I think I’ll be arriving at 4:30 p.m. so I shouldn’t have any problem… unless it’s so crowded that I can’t manage to do it before 6 p.m.
Sorry if I’m being too paranoic but I need to be very sure when buying ticket, you know… Perhaps someone could enlighten me. Are they very strict with the schedule?
Thanks again!
