Bramble - hmmm … maybe … funnily enough it’s a little better this evening, so far, and it happens to be cooler and wetter here than it’s been. Must try those tricks. Nettle tea? I’ve got millions of the things in my garden - I suppose it would be good to put them to use …
btw, which bit of Devon? Nowhere near Liskeard (Cornwall)?
Sorry to resurrect a now older thread, but I’ll add one thought here. I went through a period where this happened to me with annoying frequency. The two main culprits for me were both related to holding the flute. I would find my right thumb moving progressively further under the barrel. This would tend to roll the embouchure hole away from me. The other problem was with my hands moving in too close to my body. I’m less sure of the mechanics on this one, but moving my hands and elbows further away from my torso would fix the problem more often than not.
The tone came back. Slowly at first, but now, it’s better than it’s been so far (remember, I’ve only been playing for 7 1/2 months). Cracking tone yesterday evening.
When Jem was here the other night, he said it was just one of those things that fluters have to put up with. Fair enough, but, interestingly, it’s taught me a lot about flute playing, and also about playing my particular flute. I think these things may well stand me in good stead later on.
Oh, and Jem … the humming is getting less … maybe I’ll get there one day …
