My weirdest caller ID ever

So I get this call on my phone and the number calling me reads 65. That’s it. Just 65. Never saw that one before.

Anyway, I answer, and there’s this delay and maybe some fumbling and a tiny voice says, “Hello?”. At that point I ended the call.

Any idea what the heck just happened?

So is it possible that just by answering I opened my phone to hacking?

No, not in the way you probably mean. Of course, because you picked up the caller now knows that there’s an active line at your number. But there’s not much you can do about that, unless you screen all calls and/or your provider allows you to configure white/black lists for your line.

One annoying consequence of the 2010 anti-spoofing law is that my phone provider no longer allows me to specify what I want to appear on my own outgoing ID display, even if there’s clearly no intent to deceive. As it is, the default on my line is inappropriate to identify me. But rather than exercising some intelligence, the choice is all or nothing: allow their default ID or block it. Grrrr.

Well, that’s a relief. I was worried I’d lose my whole Hello Kitty pics collection.
