My Tenor Chieftain Low D Tuneable arrived!

I am at work now and I just received my Cheiftain low D tuneable. I can’t wait to give it a try. Never tried the Low D before. I did however order a book with it, so I can hold it right. It is really quality made. I’m curious however… I haven’t researched it yet, but since it is tuneable is it by default “D” when the tube is all the way down and “G” when the tube is stretched out or vice versa? Anyone else have this one?

Gunnar, I don’t have that one, but “tunable” usually means a semitone or so of adjustment - it’s to allow you to tune to match a harder-to-tune instrument like a piano or accordion playing in the same key, not to switch to a different key altogether.

So you might be able to tune up to Eb and down to C#, if that - I don’t know what the extremes are for a Chieftain Low D. But I’ll note that some makers sell both Low D and Low Eb tunable whistles, so they’re not automatically interchangeable.

Right enough DCrom.
Tuneable Whistles won’t adjust into another key, in fact its about 1/4 semi tone sharp and maybe 1/2 flat.
Is theChieftain one of Phils latest one’s  I would like to see a piccie.
This whistle will change your thinking with regards to whistle playing, take your time it will reward you well.

Tuneable Whistles won’t adjust into another key

Nobody makes a whistle that you can tune to different keys, do they? It seems (to me) that it would be relatively easy for a sop. D to go to a C, for example…but I don’t know anything about the actual physical mechanics of a whistle. Probably wouldn’t work.
