Interesting comments about gapped scales! I ran into this trying to find the best starting note for an American folk song “Pretty Saro” and found it could be played starting on D,E,G or A! After scratching my head for a while trying to figure out what scale it was written in I went to the piano and saw that it could be played using only the black notes which I guess makes it the Pentatonic scale. (Starting on the fifth tone) This whole area of modes, scales, gapped scales etc. is really a fascinating area of techno gold!
