I was searching around YouTube for some Scottish flute tunes. Ran across this. Not my cup of tea music-wise but I was struck by the tone quality of this one key flute. Much stronger than I expected. Did a little research. It’s a wide boehm bore design by Beaudin.
Flute sounds very nice.
That’s definitely two different flutes – the first one is the traverso, the second had D-type rings and seems to me to have a much more open sound. Mindy is an amazing flutist, one of those flute players who will sound good playing just about anything. She was the original fluter for the Baltimore Consort and replaced Chris Norman when he left. She raised several children during her hiatus.
That A392 traverso looks huge, but Mindy is a petite person. I believe she plays a low flute by Casey Burns and at least one Cameron flute.
Hey CelticModes,
Thanks for posting the link! ![]()
I’ve long been curious about Beaudin’s “Modern Traverso” flute. Here’s a link to his website/flute: http://www.flute-beaudin.com/en/traverso.html I believe it has a tapered head and foot, but a cylindrical body.
I found the tone lovely in the lower range, but harsh in the upper reaches.
I believe she switched to a McGee flute in C towards the end. The pitch of A = 392 would be a full step below D (hence C).
Good Yule!

Have any of you flutistas played one of these?
