So, today my GFM whistle arrived for review. That was fast!
But that’s not the real miracle. This is how I found the whistle in the mailbox:
Yes..that’s a paper-wrapped whistle hanging out of an open mailing tube. I’m guessing the end came off during mailing. I’m surprised the whistle stayed in there! I’m glad the post office didn’t end up delivering an empty tube!
Miracles do happen
On a side note, this whistle is nice I’m looking forward to playing it at session tonight and giving the whistle the complete write-up.
That is a miracle! I think the company better improve their packing. Maybe you should let them know that it doesn’t stand up to the handling it might get. People don’t always realize what packages have to go through. They have to be thrown, the labels can get pulled off if a loose edge gets caught in a machine, all sorts of crazy things. Glad you got it though. I think the Post Office does try to get things to where they are supposed to go if it’s at all possible.
I always use at least 3 strips of tape when mailing a whistle…two in an “x” shape across the tube cap, and one around it. That may be a little extreme though.
You cannot over-pack anything!!! If something is worth something, I actually pack it in a box and then pack that box in a second box. I put the address on the inside and outside. It did happen to me once that the outside label was torn off and the package arrived because of the inside label. I am kind of a fanatic on this issue!
A well known parcel carrier managed to deliver my Dixon low D to the incorrect address, and couldn’t then tell me which door in the village they’d knocked on! The retailer initially refused to replace the whistle as it had been delivered to somebody… but I got another in the end!
Heh, I worked 18 years in the logistics industry. Man you wouldn’t beleive some of the stories!
For valuable freight every stage of the delivery has to have double checks to stop pilferage and still stuff goes “walkies”.
One time a van was delivering a telco product, the customer had had buyer’s remorse and actually attacked the driver on the doorstep with a stick - (a blind person’s stick) he chased him back to the van with swishing random whacks. While that was going on the customer’s wife burst out the door on her wheelchair and started ramming the driver. The driver sought shelter in the van but the blind guy climbed up on the roof and started whacking the windows while the wife kept ramming the door with her wheelchair then reached-up and ripped his windshield wipers off. He radioed for help and a few minutes later the cops came to restrain the folks so that he could drive away.
Another time, a driver went to deliver a parcel and found the address had a high chain-link fence and 5 rotweilers stalking up and down. He tossed the parcel over the fence. The customer rang up all indignant that the parcel had lay on her front lawn for a few hours while the dogs chewed on it - I authorised a replacement but before it could be delivered she rang to say the product was OK the dogs had not gotten through to it - damn good wrapping there!
Another time the driver found no one at home so he left the parcel at the door and forged a signature on the POD. The customer rang-up later to complain and when I checked the sig “Fred” the customer said “Woa - that’s my dog’s name! I dunno whether to kick your ass or give the dog a bone!” the driver got a reprimand for allowing a signature without proof of ID!.
I’ve seen warehouse storemen drop-kicking fragile parcels into a truck.
One time my ma heard the garage door being opened, and walked outside to see a bunch of boxes left there. It was some expensive stereo equipment, addressed to the guy across the street.
The UPS guy didn’t even knock before leaving this stuff at the wrong house. The moral: have nice neighbors!
