Mikie Smyth will be in Charleville-Mezieres, Ardennes, FRANCE, for a workshop and recital on the 3rd of November. It’s of course for all the French pipers browsing this forum and for all the others who might be in the area this time of year, who knows…
Please PM for more details, ta very much ! ![]()
Y’a-t-il des pipers de la région parisienne qui ont l’intention de participer à ce Tionol?
Je suis au nord de Paris et je ferais bien du co-voiturage, c’est toujours sympa ![]()
Nico
I’ll be there ! ![]()
Groeten,
Patrick
Great Patrick ! Looking forward to seeing you. ![]()
Patrick,
I mentioned it to Roger de W and suggested he circulate information among the Belgian pipers and our near neighbours in NL, Lux and DE. Have you heard from him? He may have sent the information to an email address that I don’t often check.

I sent Roger de W an email but haven’t heard from him yet. Any news ? ![]()
Thanks for the link, PJ, didn’t know this one. ![]()
Thanks PJ, that’s good stuff!
Anyone have a name for the first tune? I used to play it a lot on the fiddle, but can’t remember the name. I’m going to have a stab at it one the pipes but need to search my CD library for it…
I think it’s called “will you come home with me ?”.
The 2nd tune is also called Newport Lassies.
I never liked that name for some reason. I’m not sure why, it was fine when it was the only one I knew, maybe because “Trip to Athlone” has kind of an older, “more trad” ring to it?
Hi Roger, I didn’t hear from Roger jet. But I already send some adresses to Olivier.
Do you also come to Charlevilles Misere ???
Groeten,
Patrick
Depends what you have for breakfast ![]()
Roger de W was kind enough to tell all the pipers he knows, and that’s a lot !! Thanks. That should be great. ![]()
Not for Mikie’s workshop, unfortunately. I’m taking an autumn break and hope to be in the front seats in time for the start of the third world war (Turkey).
But I am planning to visit Olivier a few weeks later to compare the sweet humming of his two little babies.
Have a good time in Turkey !
See you
Patrick
So, it’s tomorrow… I’ll let you know how it went… ![]()
So? How was it? Not the biggest fan of Mikie’s piping but wil be interesting to hear about the weekend all the same.
Well, it was just great ! Mikie is a good teacher and has a very good sense of humour, and these are two qualities that help spend a great time. So, there were people from France and Belgium, from beginner to advanced, and even if we were not so numerous (Thursday being a bank holiday, lots of peolpe gone for a 4-day weekend), the atmosphere was grand. Almost everybody knew Mikie more or less - it was his third time in Charleville. Mikie’s recital was stunning, his tricky fingering, his reg playing and his G sounding bass drone made a huge impression on the public. Pity not many people could understand English ! ![]()
Before the recital, Mikie adjusted my tenor reg and then had a few tunes on my Wooff Bbset. First time I heard my pipes being played that way, with all the regs going, and Jeez, what a sound !
I’ll post some pictures soon.
