Metronome and Jigs

Hi All,

I need a little help (actually a lot, but that is a different story).

I have one of these “Music Creator” programs for the computer that I’ve recently purchased and I’m messing around with loops - adding drums, voice, etc. - and it had been a lot of fun. To do this correctly I’ve had to play to a metronome so that the loop tracks I insert match the tempo and time. This hasn’t been too much of a problem with reels (4/4), but I’m having a lot of trouble with Jigs. Specifically, I don’t know what to set the metronome to for 6/8 time, or even if this is possible. I suppose that on average I play at somewhere between 100-126 beats per minute, but I can’t seem to get the Jigs to “match-up” with the metronome beats. Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I approaching this totally incorrectly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Using a metronome on a 3/8 6/8 9/8 12/8 tune you need to count three quavers to each click.

A 6/8 tune is therefore 123 223

Start slow (like a waltz) until you get the hang of it and then speed it up.

I use 116 BPM on the metronome for jigs, each beat is 3 notes (half a bar), but sometimes I go up a bit to around 120-maybe 124.
