MellowDog C

I’ve had a MellowDog C for a couple of days now. I also own a MellowDog D. Jerry’s done the same tweak on the C as he did on the D except he’s used the Feadog C tube AND Fipple. When I first saw this I was worried That I’ve gotten a C O’Briain since the tweaks look similar. But there is no similarity. The MellowDog C plays very much like it’s sibling the D, smooth and pure. The whistle is responsive and you can blow softly and increase your air and get good volume. The upper register is easy to reach, even the high B. All in all this is a great C whistle. I should be getting a Sindt C and D soon which I consider the best whistles, especially the C. It’ll be interesting to compare and see what my impression of the MellowDog is after I get the Sindts. I’ll keep you posted and write a longer review as I’ve had the whistle for awhile. I sure like the Freeman Tweaks, it’ll be interesting to see what Jerry comes up with in the future, he’s supposed to be working on his own whistle head and tube. I can hardly wait.

I also just received a Freeman Mello-Dog C/D set. The last thing I really needed was more C and D whistles, but curiosity got the better of me. I’m very, very impressed. The D is everything I heard it would be, and the C is just remarkable. I did about an hour of comparison-playing, and have to say I like both as well as any other whistle I have. (Not that I have Sindts, Copelands, Abels, or anything…). Anyway, I’ve decided to stop home-tweaking cheapies and leave that for the professionals, or should I leave that in the singular. Outstanding, Jerry!
