I’m curious if anyone has played a Mellow Dog with others. I’d like to know how the tuning is. I know Jerry extends the body to bring the D in tune, but how is everything else?
I can check it against my tuner, but I’m curious as to some “real world” playing, specifically with a guitar and possibly a keyboard.
I’m probably not going to be playing in a session - possibly in a small setting - so volume is not an issue.
Also, to extend this, what about the available Feadóg C body? Tuning OK on that?

I agree about the C body. I’ve got one too and love it. In fact I started a thread a while back recommending that folks pay the extra $5 and get one if they order a Mellow Dog.

I admit, I haven’t played the C body in session, as we don’t oft
play Julia Delaney or other tunes that require C a whistle. I did
just try it for the song All Around My Hat, played along with guitar
and voices, and I didn’t notice any problems.
This is a tuneable whistle, so if you find it to be a little sharp or flat overall out of the box, twist and pull the whistlehead to get it loose (it’s not glued, just sometimes they are a little sticky the first time you adjust it) and then move it to raise or lower the pitch.
Right, I know it’s tunable. I was just curious about how “in-tune” it is with itself. Sounds like it’s probably good to go.
As for the quality of the Mellow Dog - there’s no question. It’s a great whistle.
My reason for asking this is that I’m thinking about making the Mellow Dog my main whistle set. And, I’m thinking about getting a Hoover Blacktop for it for a little variety in tone, and for when I want to be able to lean into it a bit more.
If I need something with more volume, I’ve got my O’Brien set.
