Keyless Rudall refined modell in boxwood with two semicircles. I don´t play whistle and flute much these days so I´m letting some instruments go.
Soon one year old, condition as new. USD 1585 or EUR 1315. You pay shipping costs, I ship all over the world and I´ll put Terrys cleaning rod and some grease in the package as well.
This flute has the embouchure made to play in BOTH directions, lefty OR righty… so IOW it is a perfect chance for all you odd people that play “the other way around” to get a nice instrument quick.
I´m not registred to paypal or anything like that, so a wire transfer or some sort of cheque is the alternatives.
Compared to Terrys RAF it´s slightly lower in volume, a little more romantic, sweet and soft in tone. Guess it´s what you can expect with the differences that is there in the design.
Ask again and I´ll try a little harder to explain in detail It´s no all that easy since the only two flutes I´ve played is the “Euro RAF” and my boxwood.
I liked the RAF a lot, having a relatively typical “Irish sound”, powerful and easy to play… still I wanted someting that was a little more in the direction of early flutes. Therefore I chosed boxwod instead of blackwood, a smaller bore, smaller holes and two semicircles embouchure instead of modern rectangular. It still sounds Irish of course, but with a little more romantic and “soft” touch.
I should add also that I consider Terrys flutes to be easy to play. Having never played flute before I managed to play both octaves with decent sound in a week or so.
The Euro RAF having a rectangular embouchure was a little easier to play clean so to speak. My boxwood needs a little more precision and control to play cleanly, due to the “two semicircles” embouchure. I´ve heard some say that the more traditional cut, more oval in shape, is harder in the beginning but gives more variation in sound once it´s mastered, I guess agree with that… not that I´m anywhere close to master the Irish flute though .
The price is a premium of approx. $62 over Terry McGee’s price list for a new flute in boxwood, with a few months wait. Add for shipping and cleaning stick, etc. Sorry, Pan, but it seems to make more sense to work with Terry for one’s own unique fit. Unless, of course, a potential buyer is also in Sweden and wants to give it a try.
The price is the same as Terry asks for the flute and cleaning rod.
I thought these type of instruments selled for about the same they cost from the manufacturer, much due to the waiting list that is close to 6months from Terry I believe.
I guess I have to reconsider the selling price then … or rather
Yeah, I think Chris was well-intentioned. I had thought about posting something to that effect myself, but I didn’t want it to come across as rude.
You can check back through the messages (search) and see, but McGee flutes have not been selling at the same price as they go for new, probably because Terry’s waitlist is very short (relatively speaking) and his flutes are SO customizable.
But it never hurts to ask what you want to get for it!
No problem, I never felt it was rude or anything like that. I often use to make my posts short and consice (sp?) myself and I´m aware that some people may see it as a little dry… sort of.
