Manchester Tionol

A final reminder for anyone who is wavering, has forgotten or just missed the publicity.

It’s this coming Saturday (25th Feb) in Committee Rooms 1, 2 and 3 at Manchester Town Hall.

Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn teaching piping and Alan Burton doing reeds.

More details on the website: http://www.nwup.org
(Download an excellent clip of Tiarnán playing live.)

So far 25 pipers have booked into the workshops and there are only a few places left. Get in touch if you are coming and have not booked a place.

The evening concert has Tiarnán, Michael McGoldrick, Becky Taylor, Emma Sweeney etc. playing.

Hi Dave,
I’m planning on coming a bit later to have a chat and see Alan Burton
Hope to see you there Ben

Are we likely to see photos and hear MP3’s from the Tionol, guys? Hopefully

Photos are up on the website:

A few comment about the day are coming in here:

We have lots of audio and video stuff and although I asked permission to record, I did not ask about publishing on the web, doh!.

I will email those concerned to see if they will let a few track out.

It was a great day of piping and reedmaking rounded off by some outstanding playing in the concert.

Tiarnan is an exceptional piper and musician, outstanding in his choices of technique and material. He deserves to be heard far more. Some of you pipers over the water should offer him a trip across, you will be very pleased you did.

Alan Burton taught reed making tirelessly and without a break from 9.30am until 4.30pm to an enthusiastic and demanding crowd. Rumour has it he will not be touching any reeds for few days.

The photos give just a taste of the day, all tionols are special but I felt Tiarnan gave this one that bit extra.

Just thought I would put some photos here directly.

Liam, Ken, Becky, Marcus, Veronica, Frances and Alan.
Alan’s fingering is different from the rest as this is stitched from several photos. It’s not just the beer making those glasses look shaky.

Tiarnan teaching the morning class.

Alan is the centre of attention.

Tiarnan.

All the best
David

Looks like Alan is in the zone. Zone alan, zone.

There are now two mp3 clips of Tiarnán playing available to download from the Tionól 2006 page of the NWUP website. (About halfway down)

A few more mp3s and some video should appear in the near future.
