It has been quite some time that I’ve played my M&E flute (the original model, not the Rudall model) for any length of time. It’s fully keyed, but most of the IrTrad music I play now doesn’t use the keys, and I’ve been busy feeling out the depths of the Hamilton.
Well, I picked up the M&E tonight and was just playing around with it. And I rediscovered something:
That flute has a hell of a lot of bang in it!
I was amazed at both the power and the elegance of that flute. And it definitely makes the “which polymer” debate more interesting, as I have returned to my previous position that there is no clear-cut winner when you compare M&E and Seery.

I agree.
I enjoy having more than one flute to play.
Sometimes, though, I feel I should just stick with one, learning it thoroughly.
I just can’t decide which one that should be.
Is life too short? I love them all!
I think it’s a great stick for what it is. My only beefs are that the high notes from A on up need LOTS of control, it looks clunky, and some of the keywork are not easy on the user. Still, I really like its tone and penetrative sonority.
Gee, and I thought I was the only crazy critter playing that game! I try to stick with one for a while - a week or two seems to be as long as I can last before I jump in a play on another. This sounds silly, but I hate to think of the other poor flutes just sitting around all cramped up in their covers waiting for me to come along and give a caress or two and a good play.

Great listen on the M&E. When will mine sound that way? Oh, mine’s keyless (clueless?)
If I were you, I’d probably had gone for the M&E (R&R) first, then the LeHart, then the Seery, then the Copley. But I would probably not buy a Lehart or Copley at all. I’d probably buy a Burns R&R and a Hammy. That’s my plan by the way, two R&R:s, one wood and one polymer and two Prattens, one wood and one polymer. Then I’ll have to get a good Bb flute as well. Does anyone make Bb flutes in polymer? I could probably ask Terry McGee to make me one. It would be nice to have a Bb in polymer and one in wood as well.
