Low Whistle most similar to Generation High Whistle

I love playing my Generation High Whistles and was just wondering what commercial low whistle is the most similar to Generation in looks and in playability.

Howard.

Howard.

Howard, a lot for the looks if you can get it with the varnished brass tube.

For playability, the Kerry may be a better alternative…

Now, for all-in-all sound+looks+playability closest to a good Gen’, may I suggest a Reyburn?
It doesn’t cost much more than the Howard (which I find overpriced for a semi-industrial product, with some batches to be wary of…)

For the “perfect match” look, I’d tape the Reyburn’s head with electrics’ green plastic tape

And for a perfect Clarke match in low D, spray-paint black a Copeland, but don’t forget to mask out the diamond pattern! Who’ll dare it first?

I’m supprized that Generation hasn’t jumped on the Low whistle bandwagon. They could literally double the size of the high d, sell it for half the price of the average low d, and literally every whistle player on earth would buy one.
How much could a low d be produced for if they can put out a high d for six bucks?
I want one of those machines like they had in the movie “Honey, I Drank the Kids”. As I remember, it would work in reverse as well as forward, enlarging as well as shrinking.

V. B. I’ve heard that Dale already has such a machine, he keeps it at the Whistle Institute of Secret Technology, (WIST) which is in an undisclosed location. There have been reports (from very good sources) that the machines intended use for whistles only has been badly abused.

Don’t think so, I know an awful lot of whistleplayers and non of them, including myself, has use for a low whistle. :stuck_out_tongue:

A low whistle is a very useful thing. You can use it to defend yourself in a bar brawl, and in a pinch you can hang your bathroom curtains off them.

There isn’t any low whistle I’ve ever heard that sounds to me even remotely like a Generation D or Eb. Low whistles aren’t meant to sound like that. I suppose for looks the Howard wins.

Oh man, a double size gen D nickle /blue head. That would be sweet.
Really how much could it be made for? Sure, quality control would probably still be a problem, but the larger whistle would be even easier to tweak.

I’m…getting…the urge…to build…again…

I note several people said a Howard low D fitted your description.
I have one that you could try and buy if you’d like. I bought the
thing back in the mid 80’s but could never get my fingers around
the holes particularly well. I live in Madison so we’re virtually
neighbours. PM me if you’re interested.

Cheers,

Colin

I think the Kerry looks more like the Gen to me. Aside from the color.
