After a long long long period of not playin it,I pulled my Chieftan ‘A’ whistle out of the case earier to see what shape it was in.
The whistle is filthy, and I was just wondering if there is any way to clean it up?Bore oil(used on flutes)for example?
I’m guessing that you have a brass Chieftain, in which case you might want to use some silver polish to remove the tarnish. I have a couple of brass whistles, though, and I like the weathered, lived-in “patina.”
I must like “patina” - my old truck has a certain “patina”…

I use Flitz, a non-petroleum based metal cleaner for polishing jobs. Then I follow with a gentle scrubbing in hot soapy water.
What Chieftain is it? Tunable, aluminium?
Cheers, Cyril.
For the inside, cut out a little scotchbrite pad and push it through the tube (assuming you can get the head off).
Good advice from Mr Eskin here…some folks forget about the INSIDE of the whistle…
I cleaned the inside of my Low D Overton aluminium whistle with superfine steel wool and soap (twisted onto a length of dowel)… afterwards the sound was much nicer…
