Low Eb Question

Hey guys. I’ve recently been getting a progressive celtic/rock band together and I’ll be playing highland pipes and guitar etc. In it. Since we’ll be up half a step because of the pipes, I’m going to need a Low Eb whistle. I currently have a Chiefton Low D which I like, but I’ve never played any other low whistles so I have no basis of comparison. I can’t wait or put the money out there for an Overton. I’ve heard Alba mentioned before. If all else fails I’ll just go with the Chiefton but wanted to hear what you all thought. Any thoughts or suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks, William

Burke makes a low Eb.

If you play flute Olwell makes a killer Eb bamboo flute for about $80. The sound and projection of which would put any whistle to shame.

Pardon my blasphemy I’m a double agent for the flute forum.

Doc

I have an Alba Low D and love it. Not as loud as an Overton, though, if it matters for a band setting.

I was hanging out with Ronaldo (Reyburn Whistles) last week and he has a beautiful Low Eb that you mignt want to try.

I do play flute and at that way more than whistle, but I am looking for a whistle. It’ll be mic’d so no problem there. I have a high d burke which i like, but dont have a ton of cash right now for the low stuff. I’ll give reyburn whistles a look. Thanks, William

If you’re going to play publicly, why don’t you stick to something you’re already familiar with in terms of comfort, back pressure, hole styling, etc.?
The new Chieftains have improved a lot compared to the older series, and the Eb just rocks.

I have an Overton low Eb which I like a lot but, unusual for me, I don’t have anything else in that division. I’m thinking of getting a Burke as I’ve heard good things about Burke low Ds, like my Burke low G a lot but can’t justify yet another low D.

I like the idea of getting a Burke as a contrast to my Overton. This might not be what you really want. If it is, then Burke might be the way to go but if you want something like an Overton then stick with the Chieftain I’d have thought.

Hmm.. thanks for the replies. I may just stick with the chiefton. I dont have the extra $75 to spend on a burke. Can someone please refer me to a place other than lark in the morning that carries the NEW model chieftons. Im afraid lark would say they carried those but just send me an old one. Thanks, William
